Director of Accounting

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential insurance client seeking a Director of Accounting to drive financial reporting excellence, business insights, and process transformation. This senior individual contributor role combines deep accounting expertise with technology-enabled innovation to support business growth and finance modernization initiatives.

While this position does not include direct people management, you will lead through influence, serving as a trusted finance partner to senior stakeholders across operations, actuarial, claims, IT, and business leadership. You'll translate complex accounting and system considerations into practical, scalable solutions.

Responsibilities

• Lead cross-functional projects including system implementations, new business contract operationalization, and finance modernization efforts
• Manage project scope, timelines, dependencies, and stakeholder communication while proactively mitigating risks
• Identify and implement automation opportunities using AI-enabled data analytics, workflow automation, anomaly detection, and document intelligence
• Partner with IT and finance transformation teams on system enhancements, reporting automation, and workflow redesign
• Develop and prepare analytics to review monthly and quarterly financial results, including client-level performance
• Analyze financial results including variances, trends, and key business performance drivers
• Support financial reporting in accordance with U.S. GAAP, U.S. Statutory requirements, and industry standards
• Document processes and controls to improve transparency, scalability, and audit readiness
• Ensure automation solutions incorporate appropriate data quality, internal control, and governance considerations
• Facilitate alignment across teams by identifying issues, proposing solutions, and driving consensus

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• Minimum 7 years of progressive accounting and financial leadership experience
• Experience with Power BI, Power Automate, ERP/reporting systems, and AI-enabled finance tools
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, and internal control concepts
• Demonstrated ability to lead complex initiatives through influence, collaboration, and credibility
• Proven experience driving automation, process improvement, or finance transformation projects
• Advanced analytical skills with ability to synthesize complex datasets into actionable insights
• Excellent communication skills, including presenting to senior leadership
• Technology curiosity and change management capabilities
• Strong attention to detail with strategic thinking ability

Preferred Qualifications:

• 10+ years of progressive accounting and financial leadership experience
• Experience at large global insurance or financial services organizations
• CPA designation
