Senior SRE – Networks

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential edge cloud infrastructure organization that operates one of the world's most extensive global networks. Our client maintains over 100 points of presence across 6 continents with hundreds of terabits of connected capacity, serving a significant portion of internet traffic globally. Their customers include major media streaming services, e-commerce platforms, and open source projects.

We're seeking a Senior Site Reliability Engineer with deep networking expertise to join their Technical Operations team. This role offers the opportunity to work on internet-scale infrastructure that directly impacts how millions of users experience the web every day.

Responsibilities

• Build, operate, and maintain the continually growing global network footprint of a large-scale edge cloud platform
• Respond to significant traffic incidents and lead network incident resolution, addressing edge cases and failure scenarios using expertise in IP routing and BGP
• Write performant, maintainable code and contribute to code reviews to improve team processes and the overall codebase
• Partner in developing and iterating on tools and automation systems that enhance network operations and deployment
• Innovate monitoring methods for network performance with focus on end-user experience, proactively addressing potential issues
• Conduct deep-dive performance analytics and collaborate with partner teams to maintain optimal global network performance
• Advocate for operational stability by identifying opportunities and partnering with engineering teams to shape technical roadmaps
• Mentor team members on global routing complexities, particularly in anycast-heavy environments

What We're Looking For

Required Experience:

• Strong experience with internet protocols and practices including TCP/IP, BGP, Anycast, and DNS
• Automation and coding experience using Python or similar languages
• Proficiency working with Tier 1 Internet service providers, Internet exchanges, and cloud providers
• Ability to analyze internet traffic patterns using flow-based tools
• Experience with alerting, monitoring, and visibility tools such as Graphite/Grafana, Prometheus, or Splunk
• Knowledge of cloud hosting solutions including GCP, AWS, and Azure
• Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines (Git, Jenkins, Ansible)
• Understanding of Linux/Unix systems administration and network stack optimization
• Strong documentation skills and ability to share knowledge effectively
• Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to shape technical roadmaps and prioritize automation initiatives

Preferred Experience:

• Production-level code experience with VCL or Go
• Network telemetry experience including infrastructure instrumentation and data analysis
• Experience working with geographically dispersed teams and remote work arrangements

Work Arrangement:

• Remote or hybrid work available (London office option)
• Core business hours: 0800-1700
• Occasional nights and weekends for on-call coverage
• Location: UK-based (remote) or London (hybrid)
