Profee CardioThoracic Surgery Coding Specialist

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential healthcare revenue cycle organization in their search for a Professional Fee CardioThoracic Surgery Coding Specialist. Our talent team is seeking a certified medical coder with demonstrated CardioThoracic Surgery experience to join a remote coding team supporting multiple healthcare clients across the United States.

This is a fully remote position requiring independent coding expertise and the ability to maintain high productivity and accuracy standards while working from home.

Responsibilities

• Perform professional fee (ProFee) coding for CardioThoracic Surgery procedures using CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10-CM
• Calculate and assign E/M levels for professional fee encounters
• Code surgical procedures specific to the CardioThoracic specialty line of services
• Apply ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes to the highest level of specificity available
• Interpret and apply current coding guidelines for accurate code assignment
• Review clinical documentation to ensure proper code selection and identify documentation improvement opportunities
• Maintain compliance with AHIMA's Standards of Ethical Coding and organizational ethics policies
• Achieve and maintain productivity levels and accuracy rate of 95% or higher
• Maintain quality scores of 95% or higher on coding audits
• Participate in ongoing training and education to maintain coding competency
• Work independently with EMR and billing systems to complete coding assignments

What We're Looking For

• Required: Active certification through AAPC (CPC or COC) or AHIMA (CCS or CCS-P)
• Required: Minimum 1+ years of CardioThoracic Surgery professional fee coding experience
• Required: At least 6 months of on-the-job medical coding experience
• Working knowledge of EMR and billing systems
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (creating spreadsheets, basic formulas) and Outlook (email management, scheduling)
• Current coding reference materials including CPT and ICD-10-CM books or software
• Reliable home office setup with phone and high-speed internet connection
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage multiple priorities
• Regular, predictable attendance and availability during business hours
• Ability to work at a computer for 6-8 hours daily
