About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential AI technology organization that is applying frontier artificial intelligence to specialty insurance workflows. Our client needs experienced specialty insurance professionals to help shape and validate their machine learning systems.
As a contract specialist, you will work directly with their engineering team to ensure AI-generated insurance analysis meets the standards of actual practice. You'll annotate documents, review system output, and help build the quality benchmarks that define accurate coverage interpretation.
This is a part-time contract role requiring approximately 2–10 hours per week for an initial 3–4 months, with potential to extend based on project needs and mutual interest.
Responsibilities
- Locate and annotate limits structures within excess policies — including limits, sublimits, retentions, attachment points, and layer stacking
- Produce structured coverage conclusions for described scenarios based on insuring agreements and exclusions
- Review AI-generated output, correct mislabeled data, and grade system performance against seasoned practitioner standards
- Resolve ambiguous situations including manuscript wordings, follow-form excess, nested exclusions, schedule-of-underlying disputes, and implicit market conventions
- Partner with the team to design scoring criteria and review workflows that validate extraction and coverage conclusion accuracy
- Translate insurance practice into product requirements — defining what practitioners need to see, in what structure, and what would mislead them
- Explain terminology, market conventions, and the reasoning behind industry practices to engineering teams
- Review real policies, endorsements, and claims documents to establish expert standards for AI measurement and improvement
What We're Looking For
Required:
- USA-based location
- Minimum 3 years of experience in excess and specialty insurance; 5+ years strongly preferred
- Professional background as an underwriter, coverage attorney/counsel, or consultant in E&S insurance
- Deep hands-on experience in specialty insurance (underwriting, claims, broking, or coverage counsel) and/or multiline experience across General Liability, Professional Liability, and related casualty and specialty lines
- Ability to read policies end-to-end and explain precisely how coverage responds across primary and excess layers
- Strong opinions on what constitutes "correct" interpretation with ability to articulate reasoning, not just conclusions
- Clear communication skills with non-insurance experts and enjoyment of teaching technical teams
Preferred:
- Claims experience working as or alongside claim adjusters, examiners, complex claims specialists, or claims counsel
Note: No technical background required. Your role is to validate accuracy, not explain how the AI works.
