About This Opportunity
Our talent team is representing a confidential logistics client seeking a Warehouse Senior Industrial Engineer for a remote position based in the Chicago area. This role drives continuous improvement and operational excellence across distribution operations through data-driven engineering, lean methodologies, and strategic process optimization.
As a Senior Industrial Engineer, you'll partner with operations teams to identify performance gaps, design solutions, and implement sustainable improvements in safety, quality, delivery, and cost metrics. You'll apply advanced analytical and engineering tools to transform warehouse operations and support both new site launches and existing facility optimization.
Responsibilities
- Collect and analyze operational data using statistical methods; map processes and identify improvement opportunities through root cause analysis
- Develop and execute comprehensive continuous improvement plans that deliver measurable business value across key performance indicators
- Manage engineering and CI projects from initiation through sustainment, including go-live certifications and automation assessments
- Facilitate Value Stream Mapping sessions and Kaizen events, including A3 charter development, pre-work coordination, event execution, and follow-through on action items
- Apply engineering methodologies including product slotting, time studies, layout design, flow optimization, and resource modeling to enhance distribution performance
- Coach employees and process owners on lean principles, quality assurance standards, and continuous improvement techniques
- Design, implement, and monitor quality management systems based on industry standards; support corrective action processes
- Provide regular progress reporting and make inventory and supply chain strategy recommendations
- Support regulatory compliance requirements and facility expansion projects
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or Supply Chain with 5+ years of related warehousing, transportation, or manufacturing experience; OR Master's degree in Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, or Supply Chain Management with 3+ years of experience (MBA candidates must hold an undergraduate Engineering degree)
- Expert proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Visio
- Functional experience developing and managing Leader Standard Work, Visual Management Systems, Management Accountability Systems, PDCA, Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen, and 5S methodologies
- Intermediate understanding of core engineering and data analysis functions including slotting, utilization analysis, labor planning, layout design, and metrics development
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with the ability to build professional relationships across all organizational levels
- Proven ability to manage cross-functional CI projects from inception through sustained results
- Self-driven mindset with flexibility to excel in fast-paced environments; strong multi-tasking and time management capabilities
Preferred Qualifications:
- Intermediate skills in data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau) and database programming (SQL, DAX)
- Experience with warehouse design tools including CAD software, slotting applications, predetermined motion time systems (MOST), WMS platforms, and labor management systems
- Knowledge of material handling solutions and automation including powered industrial trucks, racking systems, conveyor/sortation equipment, and AS/RS technologies
- Understanding of temperature-controlled environments and various warehouse types
- Familiarity with transportation networks, equipment types, and transportation management systems
- Lean Six Sigma certification, cPMP, or ISO/QMS credentials
- APICS or Supply Chain Logistics Certification

Pay
