Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential defense technology client seeking a Flight Test Engineer & Onsite Test Coordinator to serve as the operational leader on the flight line. You will own the end-to-end lifecycle of flight test campaigns, from initial planning and hazard assessment through execution and data analysis.

As the Onsite Test Coordinator, you will lead daily range operations and ensure testing priorities remain crystal clear to all personnel. You will manage the daily tempo, coordinate crew activities, and ensure pilots, engineers, and support staff understand which tests are being conducted and when. Your role transforms raw flight data into actionable insights while maintaining a high-tempo, disciplined, and safe testing environment.

  • Act as Onsite Test Coordinator, leading daily operations and keeping the team focused on primary test objectives
  • Maintain and communicate the daily flight schedule, ensuring everyone knows the sequence of events and current testing priorities
  • Drive morning pre-flight briefs and evening debriefs, capturing critical feedback and setting goals for the following day
  • Coordinate availability of airframes, ground support equipment, and personnel to maximize range time efficiency
  • Coordinate and execute UAV flight tests in compliance with regulatory requirements and safety standards
  • Document all flight activities and anomalies with high fidelity
  • Develop specific Flight Test Techniques and instrumentation requirements to capture critical performance metrics
  • Lead Flight Readiness Reviews and contribute to safety review boards
  • Develop comprehensive flight test plans, test cards, and rigorous flight test hazard assessments
  • Process and analyze flight data using MATLAB or Python to validate system performance against requirements
  • Work with Ardupilot and PX4-based flight control systems to iterate on flight behavior and performance
  • Manage configuration of flight test articles, ensuring all hardware and software versions are meticulously tracked

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering
  • Must be a citizen of a NATO member state due to export control and security regulations
  • Professional-level written and verbal English
  • Proven ability to lead a technical team on-site, manage schedules, and communicate priorities clearly under pressure
  • Practical experience in data reduction and analysis using MATLAB or Python
  • Familiarity with Ground Control Stations, telemetry systems, and mission planning tools
  • Proven ability to plan and conduct system-level tests in an aerospace or defense environment
  • Naturally organized with ability to work through ambiguity on the flight line
  • Analytical and decisive—able to analyze data anomalies quickly and decide whether to continue testing
  • Meticulous documentation standards

Preferred Experience:

  • Active experience with uncrewed aviation systems
  • Hands-on experience with flight test instrumentation and data acquisition systems
  • Experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop simulation environments
