About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential SaaS organization seeking a Senior Data Analyst to take ownership of their most critical business metrics. This is not a traditional reporting role where you simply fulfill requests. Instead, you'll own the analytical foundation of business-critical KPIs—from SQL logic in the data warehouse to the technical definitions that finance and management rely on when questions arise about how and why metrics have changed.
This is a remote position based in Germany, with flexible arrangements including on-site, hybrid, or fully remote work within the country. Your work location will be agreed upon in advance and will form the basis of your employment contract.
Responsibilities
- KPI Ownership: Take full responsibility for the technical definitions and underlying logic of critical business metrics including ARR and revenue. You'll assess when technical definitions need adjustment, guide changes through governance and approval processes, implement them technically, and defend the results—even when challenged during audits or by external stakeholders. This includes proactive communication of definitions and changes to teams from operations through management.
- Technical Implementation: Develop, debug, and review your own analytical logic using advanced SQL skills. You'll have end-to-end understanding of how data flows from source systems through the data warehouse to reporting, enabling you to distinguish whether issues originate in the data, the process, or the definition itself. You'll independently prioritize and work through a substantial ongoing backlog from day one.
- Enabling Self-Service: Design definitions, models, and reporting structures that empower stakeholders to answer their own follow-up questions rather than depending on BI for every inquiry. For finance specifically, you'll develop the data foundation, tools, and transparency that enable the team to independently own processes like month-end close or ARR adjustments.
- Governance as Change Management: Work alongside the Head of BI to establish and embed a governance framework for business-critical KPIs. You'll define what ownership means on both the business and BI sides, establish how definitions are documented and kept audit-ready, and determine how changes are reviewed, decided, and communicated throughout the organization.
- Knowledge Transfer: Share workflows, logic, and best practices with the broader team to ensure the standards you establish are embedded sustainably across the organization.
What We're Looking For
Required qualifications:
- Several years of professional experience in Business Intelligence or Data Analytics, with demonstrated ability to own topics end-to-end rather than simply executing predefined requirements
- Advanced SQL proficiency—this is central to the role. You must be confident reading, writing, and debugging complex logic within a multi-layered data warehouse, thinking in data models and cross-functional relationships rather than isolated queries
- Strong experience with a modern BI tool; experience with MS Power BI is particularly valuable as it's the current platform
- Experience working with business or financial KPIs and willingness to engage deeply with their definitions and calculation logic. Knowledge of SaaS metrics like ARR and NRR or revenue recognition principles is a significant plus
- Proven experience collaborating closely with finance or other business stakeholders. You can explain changes in methodologies and calculation logic to non-technical colleagues while also being able to discuss and substantiate your approach when it's challenged
- Highly structured, self-organizing work style with strong initiative. Confidence to question results and clearly communicate when you believe a number is incorrect
- Excellent English language skills at C1 level; German proficiency is a plus
Preferred experience:
- Experience with dbt or comparable transformation frameworks and version-controlled analytics work
- Background in SaaS or e-commerce environments with familiarity of typical data structures and business questions
- Practical experience with data governance, data catalogs, or KPI documentation
- Exposure to controlling topics, due diligence processes, audits, or investor reporting requirements
