AI/ML Engineering Manager

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential AWS cloud services organization seeking an AI/ML Engineering Manager in Argentina. This is a senior leadership role combining hands-on technical work with people management—you'll lead complex customer engagements while building and developing a team of ML engineers and architects.

This position reports to the Director of AI/ML and requires someone who finds energy in operating at both levels: deeply technical on client work and fully accountable for team growth, hiring, and performance.

Responsibilities

Team Leadership

• Hire and build a high-performing ML team—set technical standards, lead assessments, and make hiring decisions that raise the practice's overall bar
• Develop people through structured 1:1s, candid feedback, and active investment in growth across all experience levels
• Manage performance directly—recognize strong contributors and address gaps early, partnering with HR when needed
• Oversee staffing across engagements, ensuring team members are placed in work that stretches them appropriately

Strategic Advisory & Client Engagement

• Lead end-to-end ML assessments—evaluate infrastructure, data pipelines, model lifecycle, and organizational readiness to produce executive-level recommendations
• Serve as senior technical authority on engagements, setting architectural direction and making critical tradeoff decisions
• Advise on ML operations—help customers build sustainable ML systems by translating MLOps, LLMOps, and monitoring complexity into executable standards
• Drive pre-sales efforts alongside sales teams, providing technical depth for accurate scoping and customer confidence

Hands-On Delivery

• Lead engagements from kickoff through delivery—drive architecture, unblock hard problems, and ensure quality standards
• Own technical client relationships as either primary contact or senior authority, depending on engagement structure
• Mentor engineers through real work, contribute to technical interviews, and build reference architectures that strengthen the broader practice

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years in machine learning or AI with proven track record leading client-facing consulting engagements
• Demonstrated people management experience—hiring, performance calibration, career development, and direct difficult conversations
• Deep, current knowledge of the AWS ML and GenAI ecosystem with ability to make and defend architectural decisions across the full ML lifecycle
• Deep expertise in at least two to three ML domains (classical ML, computer vision, NLP, time series, etc.) with judgment to assess and advise across the broader landscape
• Proven ability to architect production ML systems end-to-end and translate MLOps/LLMOps complexity for both engineering teams and executives
• Deep expertise in foundation model adaptation—fine-tuning (LoRA, QLoRA, PEFT), alignment (RLHF, DPO), inference optimization, distributed training, RAG, and agentic system design including multi-agent architectures
• Ability to operate independently in complex customer environments—navigate priorities, align stakeholders, and translate ML tradeoffs into business value

Strong Differentiators

• AWS Certified Machine Learning – Specialty and/or AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional
• Experience shaping practice-level standards and reusable ML accelerators across multiple engagements
• Exposure to varied industries and problem types in consulting contexts
• Deep fluency in responsible AI practices—model evaluation, bias detection, fairness frameworks, AI governance
• Fluency in AIOps patterns for anomaly detection, root cause analysis, and remediation

Technical Stack

You should have prescriptive expertise across: AWS ML Platform (SageMaker suite, Bedrock), multi-provider LLM APIs, AWS AI Services, data platforms (Spark, Kafka, Kinesis), vector databases, ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, HuggingFace), MLOps tools, LLM evaluation and safety frameworks, and inference optimization.

• May require up to 25% travel depending on business needs
