Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential organization in Mainz seeking a Senior Microsoft SQL Administrator to manage and evolve critical database platforms within their high-availability data center infrastructure.

Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Administering, configuring, and operating Microsoft SQL Server environments including SSIS, SSRS, and SSAS
  • Managing SQL Server instances and supporting database migrations and platform modernizations
  • Handling user and permissions management within the SQL infrastructure
  • Planning, executing, and documenting backup, recovery, and disaster recovery measures
  • Supporting and facilitating database audits
  • Conducting database script reviews and controlled execution of production changes
  • Performing root cause analysis and resolving complex issues in 2nd-level support
  • Collaborating with vendors during escalations and support cases
  • Managing patch deployment and lifecycle activities
  • Analyzing database and system loads with continuous performance optimization
  • Capacity planning and ensuring availability of critical database systems
  • Creating and maintaining operational documentation, operating manuals, and ITSM documentation
  • Documenting all activities in the ticketing system
  • Providing consultation on architecture decisions and supporting technical planning
  • Generating reports and analyses to support operations

What We're Looking For

Required Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience as an MSSQL Database Administrator
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in IT operations or 2nd-level support
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server 2012, 2016, 2019 or newer
  • Strong proficiency with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), and SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS)
  • Proven experience with database migrations
  • Deep expertise in backup, recovery, and disaster recovery
  • Advanced skills in performance and capacity management
  • Experience conducting database audits
  • Demonstrated patch and lifecycle management capabilities
  • Background operating enterprise-level database environments
  • Familiarity with IT Service Management processes and ticketing systems
  • Knowledge of current IT security requirements, BSI-Grundschutz standards, and data protection regulations
  • Fluent German and good English language skills (written and spoken)

Required Certifications:

  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) SQL Server 2012 Database Administration or SQL Server 2016 Database Administration, or equivalent current successor certification
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) Data Management and Analytics, or equivalent current successor certification

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with federal authorities or KRITIS-adjacent organizations
  • Knowledge of high-availability SQL Server architectures including AlwaysOn Availability Groups, SQL Server Clustering, failover concepts, and business continuity
  • PowerShell automation experience
  • Experience with infrastructure and database monitoring
  • ITIL certification
  • Background in architecture consulting and technical concept projects

Security Requirements:

This position requires a security clearance according to the German Security Clearance Act. You must either hold a current SÜ2-Geheim clearance or be willing and eligible to undergo this clearance process.
