Senior Software Entwickler / Tech Lead – Java, Spring & Jakarta EE*

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential enterprise software organization in Bonn seeking a Senior Software Developer / Tech Lead with expertise in Java, Spring, and Jakarta EE.

In this role, you will:

• Develop sophisticated fullstack Java and web applications across front- and backend, working in both modern Spring environments and Jakarta EE contexts
• Bridge legacy and modern Java ecosystems, understanding both established enterprise application landscapes with classic Jakarta EE architectures and contemporary Spring, Cloud, and Microservice architectures
• Analyze existing systems, identify modernization opportunities, and develop strategies to evolve mature applications into sustainable, future-ready solutions without unnecessarily discarding functional approaches
• Think architecturally, not just technologically, designing solutions that balance innovation with practical enterprise realities
• Apply clean code principles, test-driven development, and DevOps practices as integral parts of professional software engineering
• Solve complex technical challenges, optimize existing solutions, and find pragmatic ways to connect legacy systems with modern technologies
• Collaborate closely with colleagues and cross-functional teams, contributing technical expertise to develop optimal client solutions
• Serve as a technical consultant, understanding client requirements, questioning existing approaches, and supporting sustainable application evolution

What We're Looking For

• Several years of fullstack development experience with strong backend focus in Java, ideally complemented by Kotlin or Python
• Deep knowledge of modern Java development with Spring, particularly Spring Boot and Spring Cloud
• Solid experience with Jakarta EE and classic enterprise application landscapes, including application servers like JBoss or WebSphere
• Understanding of the differences and relationships between classic and modern Java architectures, with experience modernizing applications or supporting migration to new architectures
• Regular frontend development experience, ideally with React or Angular as well as JSF or PrimeFaces
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and cloud services
• Ability to both navigate existing complex system landscapes and design new technical solutions
• Strong self-organization, team spirit, and problem-solving skills
• Experience in (partial) project leadership preferred
• Native-level German and confident English communication skills
