Managing Director, Development

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential advocacy organization in their search for a Managing Director, Development. This is a senior leadership role responsible for directing all fundraising, donor relations, and development strategy. You will partner closely with executive leadership to drive revenue growth and build lasting relationships with major supporters. This remote position is open to candidates anywhere in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the principal driver of fundraising and development success, leading all revenue generation efforts
• Develop and implement stewardship programs and cultivate major donor relationships through strategic outreach, meetings, and events
• Create short and long-term strategies for increasing organizational revenue and donor engagement
• Provide thought leadership on growth opportunities, innovation in fundraising, and diversification of the donor base
• Collaborate with executive leadership on development messaging, marketing, events, branding, and positioning
• Build and manage an internal development team, mentoring staff and establishing performance goals
• Lead strategy coordination with internal stakeholders and external contractors on all fundraising initiatives
• Oversee creation of donor materials including proposals and grant reports, providing strategic writing and editing
• Lead fundraising and revenue projections, driving success against benchmarks and working with finance on budget planning
• Represent the organization at speaking engagements, fundraising events, and in donor communications
• Manage the development team budget

What We're Looking For

• 10+ years of direct fundraising and development experience in nonprofit or political organizations
• 5+ years of people and/or project management experience, including leading departments and diverse teams
• Experience managing complex projects and working with senior-level executives and board members
• Proven track record of raising over $10M annually
• Clear understanding of the political landscape, particularly relating to environmental and energy policy
• Strong organizational skills with ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Commitment to staying current on best practices and trends in fundraising and development
• Slight preference for candidates based in New York City or Washington DC, though remote candidates nationwide are welcome

Pay

Our client offers a structured compensation system based on years of experience, with salaries ranging from $175,100 to $209,090 annually. Placement within the range is determined by a step system correlating to experience level (10 years = $175,100; 27+ years = $209,090). The organization also provides comprehensive benefits including 100% paid medical/dental/vision for employees, unlimited PTO with extended breaks, 401(k) with 5% match, student loan repayment assistance, and various work-from-home stipends.

Position Details: Full-time, exempt. Remote (US-based). Monday-Friday 9am-6pm EST, with occasional evening/weekend work and 3-4 travel trips annually.
