Material Artist

Responsibilities

We are representing a leading European game development studio seeking a Material Artist to join their production team in Romania. In this role, you will partner with art and design teams to develop compelling, high-quality materials that bring game worlds to life.

Your day-to-day responsibilities include:

• Develop benchmark materials utilizing Substance Designer, Substance Painter, ZBrush, or other preferred tools
• Ensure all materials maintain compatibility and interchangeability within the project pipeline
• Collaborate closely with Level Artists to create user-friendly materials for environment construction
• Work with technical leadership to verify materials integrate correctly with project-specific shaders, including features like tinting and height blends
• Uphold the integrity and uniformity of the material library across production
• Independently research, evaluate, and implement the latest industry trends and material creation techniques
• Adapt stock textures and resources to fit production pipelines and technical specifications
• Pivot to simple prop modeling tasks when material creation assignments are not immediately available

What We're Looking For

Essential Skills & Experience:

• Deep and highly proficient knowledge of Substance Designer
• Strong knowledge of PBR (Physically Based Rendering) material standards
• Experience creating textures for complex semi-procedural shaders
• Understanding of material blending systems and material optimization for real-time engines
• Proven ability to produce materials in a wide variety of styles and themes, from stylized to photorealistic
• At least one shipped title within the game development or CG industry
• Proficiency with Maya or a similar Digital Content Creation tool is a plus
• Ability to select the most appropriate software for any given task

• Strong communication skills
• Intermediate English level or higher
