About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential insurtech organization that is rebuilding critical insurance workflows on top of modern infrastructure and AI-driven automation. This is a Senior Full Stack Engineer role focused on their AI Builder product suite, working directly on customer-facing features that transform underwriting, claims processing, and document automation.
You will own outcomes end-to-end—choosing what to build, prototyping rapidly, shipping to real customers, and iterating based on actual usage. This is not a ticket-execution role. You will push the product, the codebase, and the engineering culture forward.
The team is small, the mandate is large, and the pace is fast. If your best work comes from solving real problems start-to-finish with high autonomy, this is the seat.
Responsibilities
- Own customer outcomes, not tickets. Identify the highest-leverage feature each sprint and drive it to production. Surface the next priority yourself.
- Build with AI as a core material—OCR, document understanding, generation, agent loops, evaluation harnesses—and determine where each technique fits.
- Ship working prototypes fast, then harden them for production. A demo on day three beats a perfect plan on day ten.
- Work directly with customers. You will see real claims workflows, underwriting screens, and broker tools. You will watch users struggle and decide what to fix.
- Raise the bar on code quality. Drive meaningful improvements in reviews, refactors, testability, and observability as engineering habits, not policy.
- Push the team forward. Propose and build better internal tools, agent capabilities, and engineering standards. Get them adopted.
What We're Looking For
- 6+ years building production systems with a track record of shipping complex, customer-facing software—not just maintaining it.
- Real AI shipping experience. You have built and launched at least one substantive AI-driven feature in production. POCs that stayed in notebooks do not count.
- High agency. You do not wait for cards to be assigned. You see what is worth doing and you start.
- Strong fundamentals: Object-oriented design, design patterns, testing, web security, performance. You do not need a refresher.
- Cloud proficiency: AWS, Azure, or GCP—at least one in depth, the rest conversationally.
- Clear communication. You can explain a tradeoff to a non-technical stakeholder in two minutes and to an engineer in one.
- Curiosity about the domain. Insurance is messy and full of strange incentives. That intrigues you, not annoys you.
- Fluency with AI tooling. You have worked with LLMs or agents in production. You know where the magic ends and careful engineering begins.
- Care about impact. Insurance done right gives people peace of mind during their worst weeks. That matters to you.
Tech stack: Node.js, TypeScript, Nest.js, Vue (some React), GraphQL, MongoDB, Docker, AWS. AI work spans OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, plus in-house capabilities. You do not need to know every piece, but you should be the kind of engineer who picks up a new tool and ships with it within the week.
Not suitable if: You prefer tickets assigned to you over choosing what to build. You measure work in lines of code, not outcomes. You see AI as a buzzword rather than a tool you have used in production. You want detailed specs handed down from product. You are looking for a maintenance role on a finished platform.
