Senior Accountant/ Finance Specialist (m/w/d) – remote

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential EdTech organization seeking a Senior Accountant/Finance Specialist to serve as the central finance point of contact. In this role, you will own complete operational finance, build processes from the ground up, and automate wherever possible. This is a remote position based in Germany, initially on a one-year contract with strong potential for conversion to permanent employment.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

• Operational Finance: Managing accounts payable and receivable, invoice processing, payment runs, collections, and reconciliations
• Payment Operations: Overseeing daily banking activities, account statements, and cash management
• Expense Management: Processing travel expenses and team spending through modern expense tools
• Revenue Reconciliation: Matching app store, payment processor, and banking transactions
• Tax & Compliance: Serving as primary liaison with external tax advisors and managing audit interactions
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Working closely with sales and other departments on deal structuring, commission calculations, and ongoing financial reporting
• Payroll Oversight: Preparing, reviewing, and approving domestic and international payroll including commission calculations
• Financial Close: Contributing to monthly, quarterly, and annual closings under HGB standards, plus budgeting and financial planning
• Systems & Process: Implementing new finance systems, maintaining master data, and continuously improving finance workflows
• Automation & AI: Identifying automation opportunities, building tool integrations, and actively leveraging AI to increase efficiency

What We're Looking For

• Experience: Several years in finance with broad responsibility across accounting, payroll, and financial close—ideally as a sole finance owner
• Technical Skills: Expert-level proficiency with DATEV (required); familiarity with tools like Scopevisio, Spendesk, or HubSpot is a strong advantage
• Digital & AI Mindset: Genuine enthusiasm for technology and proven use of AI tools to drive efficiency gains
• Work Style: Highly autonomous, proactive, and comfortable taking full ownership
• Languages: Excellent German and strong English communication skills
• Location: Must be based in Germany; this is a remote-first role
