Senior Software Engineer, Toolkit

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential database technology organization seeking a Senior Software Engineer to own the evolution of a critical developer toolkit. In this role, you will:

• Own the long-term roadmap and technical strategy for a PostgreSQL-based toolkit that enables complex time-series calculations and analytics
• Define priorities by identifying emerging customer needs across IoT, industrial systems, observability, and financial markets
• Partner with product teams and end users to translate real-world workflows into intuitive developer experiences
• Improve reliability, testing, documentation, performance, and maintainability to ensure production-ready capabilities
• Balance shipping new functionality with maintaining long-term code quality and technical excellence
• Work across product discovery and implementation, shaping what gets built rather than waiting for fully defined requirements

What We're Looking For

Our client needs an engineer who thrives on building developer tools that solve real problems. The ideal candidate will have:

• At least 2+ years of professional experience with Rust
• Strong software engineering fundamentals with contributions to open source projects
• Experience building SDKs, client libraries, developer tooling, APIs, or platforms used by other engineers
• Basic knowledge of statistical functions and data analysis concepts
• Understanding of database fundamentals including indexing, query execution, transactions, partitioning, and performance tradeoffs
• Natural curiosity about how customers use software and the ability to translate that into product decisions
• Ability to work effectively in a globally distributed, remote-first engineering organization
• English language fluency for collaboration across time zones

Bonus qualifications:

• Experience building databases, query engines, or data infrastructure products
• Familiarity with time-series databases, observability platforms, or analytics systems
• Experience with physical IoT systems, industrial software, or manufacturing environments
