Water System Superintendent

Dexterra is seeking an experienced Water System Superintendent to lead and manage water system operations in Beltsville, MD. This full-time position offers the opportunity to oversee critical infrastructure and ensure safe, reliable water service to the community.

Role Overview

As Water System Superintendent, you'll direct all aspects of the municipal water system, from treatment and distribution to monitoring and maintenance. In this leadership role, you'll be responsible for ensuring water quality standards are met, compliance with environmental regulations is maintained, and the system operates efficiently and safely every day.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Supervise and train water system operators and maintenance staff
• Monitor water quality testing and laboratory results
• Oversee routine maintenance, repairs, and capital improvement projects
• Ensure compliance with EPA regulations and state water quality standards
• Manage emergency response and system outages
• Develop and manage operational budgets
• Prepare reports on system performance and regulatory compliance
• Coordinate with regulatory agencies and external contractors

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED (minimum); some college coursework or technical certification preferred
• Valid water/wastewater operator certification or willingness to obtain
• 5+ years of experience in water system operations or related field
• Supervisory or leadership experience managing teams
• Strong knowledge of water treatment processes and distribution systems
• Ability to work irregular hours, including on-call availability for emergencies
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
