About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential K–8 education organization in their search for a Lead Core Literacy Consultant. This is a player-coach role where you'll both lead a team of literacy specialists and maintain your own active caseload of curriculum pilots. You'll ensure consistent, high-quality professional learning delivery across your team while staying grounded in current classroom practice.
This is a remote position based in the United States requiring up to 65% travel, including overnight stays for pilot delivery, team coaching visits, and internal collaboration.
Responsibilities
As Lead Core Literacy Consultant, you will:
- Coach, manage, and develop a team of Core Literacy Specialists, providing regular feedback to strengthen their facilitation, consultation, and classroom-modeling skills
- Conduct co-observations and calibration sessions to ensure consistent pilot professional learning delivery across the team
- Partner with senior leadership on staffing, workload balancing, capacity planning, interviewing, and hiring decisions
- Onboard and train new team members, building their program knowledge and facilitation confidence
- Serve as first point of escalation for specialists navigating complex district relationships or instructional challenges
- Carry an active, focused caseload of your own pilots, delivering high-quality professional learning that models expectations for your team
- Facilitate pilot orientations and professional learning experiences that build educators' understanding of program design, instructional routines, and implementation expectations
- Build trusted relationships with teachers, coaches, school leaders, and district leaders as a consistent instructional partner
- Provide targeted consultation on lesson planning, pacing, instructional routines, and program resource utilization
- Demonstrate lessons and instructional routines when appropriate, followed by reflection connecting decisions to program design and student learning
- Conduct classroom walkthroughs and engage educators in conversations about pilot implementation across classrooms
- Aggregate insights from across your entire team and communicate meaningful patterns, successes, and challenges to leadership
- Support districts transitioning from pilot to adoption, creating continuity between pilot experience and full implementation
- Partner with district leaders to identify key pilot learnings that inform implementation planning and professional learning
What We're Looking For
Required Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of education experience with strong focus on literacy instruction
- Demonstrated experience coaching, mentoring, or managing other adult professionals, ideally in remote or field-based settings
- Prior people-management experience preferred
- Successful classroom teaching experience in literacy; experience teaching with comprehensive core literacy programs strongly preferred
- Experience providing professional learning, coaching, or instructional support to teachers and school leaders
- Experience supporting curriculum implementation or participating in curriculum pilots/adoptions preferred
- Demonstrated effectiveness working cross-functionally and with remote teams
- Bachelor's degree in education, literacy, English language arts, or related field required; advanced degree in literacy, curriculum and instruction, or related field preferred
Required Skills:
- Deep knowledge of evidence-based literacy instruction and current best practices in reading and writing
- Strong knowledge of elementary literacy instruction and the demands of implementing comprehensive core literacy programs
- Exceptional facilitation skills and ability to engage adult learners in meaningful professional learning
- Strong classroom presence and ability to confidently model lessons with students
- Ability to provide direct, actionable, growth-oriented coaching and feedback
- Experience balancing individual client delivery with team leadership and management responsibilities
- Comfort making staffing, workload, and capacity-planning decisions across multiple pilots and territories
- Ability to observe instruction, recognize meaningful patterns, and clearly communicate insights
- Strong organizational skills managing teams, multiple pilots, stakeholder relationships, schedules, and competing priorities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Comfort using digital tools and data to support professional learning and team performance

Pay
