Position Summary

CBRE is seeking a dedicated Building Engineer to join our facilities management team for overnight shift operations in Washington, D.C. As a Building Engineer, you'll be the backbone of our property operations, responsible for the continuous monitoring, maintenance, and repair of complex building systems. This full-time role is part of our Engineering and Technical Services division, where you'll provide preventive maintenance, respond to urgent repairs, and ensure all mechanical, electrical, and structural systems meet performance standards to keep our properties functioning optimally around the clock.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and maintain building systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and roofing infrastructure during overnight hours
  • Perform preventive maintenance on heating and cooling systems to ensure consistent temperature control and energy efficiency
  • Diagnose and repair equipment failures in electrical systems, pumps, compressors, and related mechanical components
  • Conduct and respond to building maintenance requests including painting touch-ups, general repairs, and emergency troubleshooting
  • Perform routine inspections of building mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and structural systems
  • Document maintenance activities, repairs, and system performance in digital logs
  • Collaborate with contractors and specialized service providers for complex repairs beyond routine maintenance
  • Maintain safety standards and ensure compliance with all applicable building codes and regulations

Skills & Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Building Engineer, Facilities Maintenance Technician, or similar role
  • Knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general building maintenance systems
  • Ability to work overnight shifts independently and manage multiple priorities
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities
  • Mechanical aptitude and comfort with hand tools and diagnostic equipment
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • High school diploma or equivalent; relevant technical certifications (EPA, HVAC, electrical) preferred
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
