Project Controls Specialist

About the Role

As a Project Controls Specialist at CDM Smith, you'll be the backbone of project execution—ensuring schedules stay on track, budgets remain controlled, and stakeholders have the visibility they need to make informed decisions. You'll combine technical project management expertise with strong analytical and communication skills to deliver outcomes our clients depend on.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and update project schedules using industry-standard tools; track progress against approved baselines and forecast completion dates
• Monitor project budgets and costs; analyze variances and prepare financial performance reports for project leadership and clients
• Collect and analyze project data to identify risks, delays, and opportunities for corrective action; recommend mitigation strategies
• Prepare comprehensive status reports, dashboards, and presentations that communicate project health to stakeholders at all levels
• Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and field teams to ensure accurate data collection and alignment on project metrics
• Maintain project documentation, including plans, procedures, and historical records for knowledge retention and continuous improvement

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, business, or related field; or equivalent professional experience in project controls
• Proficiency with project management software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project) and Microsoft Office applications
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to present data clearly to diverse audiences
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
