Position Summary
The University of Pennsylvania seeks a detail-oriented Wildlife Diagnostics Technician to perform laboratory-based diagnostic work for wildlife species. In this full-time role, you'll process and analyze samples from wild animals to support veterinary medicine, research programs, and public health monitoring. Working at our Kennett Square facility, you'll collaborate with veterinarians, wildlife researchers, and conservation professionals to contribute to understanding wildlife diseases and improving animal health outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive, log, and process wildlife specimens including tissues, blood, and other biological materials using established laboratory protocols
- Perform diagnostic testing and microscopic analysis to identify pathogens and health conditions
- Conduct and assist with necropsy procedures and post-mortem examinations under veterinary supervision
- Maintain accurate laboratory records, data entry, and comprehensive test documentation
- Prepare diagnostic reports and communicate findings to veterinary staff and research teams
- Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment to ensure proper functioning and accuracy
- Follow all biosafety and laboratory safety protocols and regulatory requirements
- Support field operations and sample collection efforts when needed
What You Bring
- High school diploma or GED required; some college coursework in biology or life sciences preferred
- Laboratory experience or technical training in diagnostic, veterinary, or wildlife settings
- Strong attention to detail and exceptional organizational abilities
- Demonstrated ability to accurately record, analyze, and interpret technical data
