Architect – Critical Facilities – Mid Level

Join Gensler's Critical Facilities practice as a mid-level architect in San Jose, Santa Clara County. In this full-time role, you'll lead the design and delivery of sophisticated infrastructure solutions for high-tech facilities that power the digital world.

You'll architect complex, cutting-edge facilities designed to support the most demanding technical environments. Your work spans data centers, advanced laboratory facilities, and specialized infrastructure projects that require deep technical knowledge and innovative thinking. As a key contributor to our practice, you'll partner with clients, engineers, and construction teams to transform ambitious visions into resilient, operational realities.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Develop architectural designs and construction documents for data center and high-density laboratory facilities
• Collaborate with engineers, consultants, and construction partners across all project phases
• Create specifications, presentations, and visual materials that communicate design solutions effectively
• Work directly with clients to understand requirements, optimize performance, and address constraints
• Participate in construction oversight, value engineering, and troubleshooting to ensure successful project delivery
• Support the growth of our Critical Facilities practice through project excellence and business development

Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in architecture or equivalent professional experience
• Proven experience designing high-tech, data center, laboratory, or comparable specialized facilities
• Proficiency with design software and BIM tools such as Revit or AutoCAD
• Strong technical knowledge of building systems, codes, and critical facility standards
• Excellent communication skills—both written and visual—for client and team engagement
• Experience managing complex architectural projects from concept through construction
• Collaborative mindset and ability to thrive in a dynamic, team-oriented environment
