Join Gensler's Los Angeles office as a Senior Technical Designer specializing in mixed-use and residential projects. In this full-time position, you'll partner with our Design Directors to transform creative concepts into comprehensive technical solutions, managing projects from early design through construction documentation.
About the Role
As a Senior Technical Designer on our mixed-use and residential team, you will lead the translation of design intent into buildable, detailed technical solutions. You'll serve as a bridge between creative vision and construction reality, ensuring designs are not only compelling but also technically sound, cost-effective, and constructable.
What You'll Do
- Work alongside Design Directors and project teams to shape design solutions that balance aesthetic vision with functional requirements
- Produce detailed 2D and 3D models, drawings, and visualizations that communicate design direction to all stakeholders and construction teams
- Shepherd designs through every phase of construction documentation, from schematic concepts through final contract documents
- Investigate and solve technical, material, and constructability challenges to keep designs practical and achievable
- Own technical coordination including structural systems, building performance, and code alignment
- Guide junior designers and maintain design quality standards across our mixed-use and residential portfolio
What We're Looking For
- Senior-level experience as a Technical Designer or equivalent role in architectural practice, with a track record in mixed-use or residential design
- Expert command of architectural software and 3D modeling tools (Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp, or similar platforms)
- Deep understanding of building systems, material science, and construction methods
- Proven success working effectively within collaborative, multidisciplinary teams
- Strong visual and written communication abilities
- Demonstrated expertise with design coordination and construction administration
- Knowledge of building codes and regulatory compliance
