Sr. Category Manager

Xcel Energy is hiring a Sr. Category Manager to lead sourcing strategy and vendor management at our Henderson, Adams County location. This is a full-time position for an experienced procurement leader ready to drive cost efficiency and supply chain excellence.

The Opportunity

As a Senior Category Manager at Xcel Energy, you'll own the strategic planning and execution of critical sourcing categories that impact our operations across the region. You'll identify cost-saving opportunities, build strong supplier relationships, and establish risk mitigation frameworks that protect company interests. This role combines hands-on vendor negotiation with strategic planning—ideal for a procurement professional who thrives in both tactical and forward-looking work.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Develop and implement sourcing strategies for assigned categories, balancing cost, quality, and supply reliability
• Evaluate, select, and onboard suppliers that meet Xcel Energy's operational and compliance standards
• Manage supplier performance through contract administration, scorecarding, and continuous improvement initiatives
• Identify and assess supply chain risks; design mitigation plans and business continuity protocols
• Collaborate across departments—operations, finance, engineering—to align procurement with business needs
• Analyze market trends and spend data to recommend sourcing innovations and process improvements
• Negotiate contracts and terms to optimize value while maintaining ethical and regulatory compliance

Skills & Qualifications

• 7+ years of procurement, category management, or supply chain experience in utilities, energy, manufacturing, or similar sectors
• Demonstrated success developing and executing category strategies that reduced costs or improved efficiency
• Strong negotiation skills and proven ability to build collaborative relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders
• Proficiency with procurement systems, spend analytics platforms, and contract management tools
• Analytical mindset with ability to interpret data and market intelligence to inform decision-making
• Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain management, or related field (or equivalent professional experience)
• Knowledge of regulatory requirements and compliance standards in the energy/utilities sector is a plus
