About this role & career path

The path is deep environmental forensics and contaminated-site science—PFAS chemistry, source attribution, and expert communication—inside a large A/E firm, not a generic “nursing track.” Growth usually means broader program ownership, multiproject technical review, and recognized subject-matter authority.

Build the skills for this role

Prioritize PFAS chemistry, environmental forensics methods, data QA, and clear technical writing. Adjacent free learning (costs as listed): Saylor Academy — Health Sciences courses (free); Coursera — audit-track healthcare courses (free to learn)—useful only as general science hygiene, not role-specific credentials.

Expect deep dives on PFAS source differentiation, lab methods and uncertainty, case studies you’ve led, and how you translate forensics for non-specialists. Prepare examples of multi-party or cross-border work and how you align findings with regulatory context.

Strong fit if you already lead PFAS forensics and want scale inside CDM Smith’s water/environment practice. Weak fit if you seek pure field tech work or generic project management without forensic depth. On-site/regional (remote: no).
