RISE Freshman Support Specialist – 9th Grade On Track Summer Bridge Program

New London Public Schools is hiring a Freshman Support Specialist for the 9th Grade On Track Summer Bridge Program at New London High School Multi Magnet Campus in New London, New London County. This is a full-time position running August 3–6, working 3.5 hours per day.

About the Role

As a Freshman Support Specialist, you'll work directly with ninth-grade students who face significant barriers to academic success. This summer bridge program is designed to help at-risk students build the attendance habits, behavioral strategies, and academic confidence needed to enter high school positioned to thrive. You'll serve as a mentor, advocate, and consistent source of accountability—meeting students where they are and removing obstacles that stand between them and their goals.

What You'll Do

• Build personalized support plans for assigned students using attendance records, grades, and behavioral data
• Conduct ongoing attendance monitoring and work with families and school staff to identify and address barriers to showing up
• Meet regularly with students to review progress, set achievable goals, and provide encouragement
• Partner with classroom teachers, school counselors, and administrators to align support and coordinate interventions
• Maintain detailed records of student progress and share updates with families and district leadership
• Model and reinforce positive behaviors and academic engagement throughout the program

• Prior experience supporting adolescents, particularly those struggling with attendance or academics
• A genuine commitment to educational equity and student achievement
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills with young people and families
• Ability to juggle multiple students and priorities while staying organized and responsive
• Comfort reading and acting on student data to inform decisions
• Cultural awareness, emotional intelligence, and the resilience to work with complex situations
