Police Patrol Officer I – II

City of Elko is hiring Police Patrol Officers to serve and protect the Cover, Elko County community. This is a full-time law enforcement position dedicated to maintaining public safety, enforcing local ordinances, and responding to calls for service across our jurisdiction.

About the Role

As a Patrol Officer, you'll be the visible presence of law enforcement in our community. Working under the direction of sergeants and in compliance with departmental policies, you'll handle the full range of patrol duties that keep Cover and surrounding areas safe. This role combines routine community patrols with investigative work, emergency response, and traffic enforcement—each day presents new challenges that require good judgment and strong decision-making.

What You'll Do

• Conduct preventive patrols to deter criminal activity and ensure public safety
• Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls from the public
• Conduct preliminary investigations at crime scenes and gather evidence
• Enforce traffic laws and conduct traffic stops when necessary
• Write clear, accurate incident reports and maintain proper documentation
• Interact professionally with the public and handle sensitive situations with discretion
• Follow all departmental rules, regulations, and procedures
• Assist other officers and emergency responders as needed

• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record
• Ability to pass a thorough background investigation, medical exam, and drug screening
• Physical fitness and ability to meet law enforcement standards
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Sound judgment and the ability to remain calm under pressure
• Commitment to public service and community safety
• Willingness to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays
