About the Role
As a Junior Custodian at BAM, you'll play an essential part in preserving the cleanliness, safety, and welcoming atmosphere of our historic buildings and performance spaces. Working alongside our facilities team, you'll contribute to creating an environment where artists and audiences alike can focus on the magic of live theater, dance, music, opera, film, and innovative cultural programming.
What You'll Do
- Perform daily cleaning and maintenance of theaters, rehearsal studios, lobbies, restrooms, and administrative areas
- Maintain floors, carpets, and surfaces using appropriate equipment and cleaning products
- Remove and dispose of trash and recyclables according to facility protocols
- Restock supplies in restrooms and common areas
- Report maintenance needs or facility issues to supervisors promptly
- Follow safety protocols and handle cleaning materials responsibly
- Support event setup and breakdown as needed
What We're Looking For
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness standards
- Physical capability to lift, bend, and stand for extended periods
- Reliable transportation to Brooklyn, New York City
- Willingness to learn and follow facility procedures
- Positive attitude and collaborative approach to teamwork
