Director of Geospatial Information Systems (GIS)

Zayo is hiring a Director of Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) to lead infrastructure mapping, asset management, and spatial data strategy across our North American and European network operations. This is a full-time position based in the United States.

About the Role

As Director of GIS, you'll oversee geospatial systems and data intelligence that power one of the world's largest network infrastructures. Zayo's 141,000-mile network spans North America and Europe, connecting thousands of buildings and data centers with dark fiber, private networks, and wavelength services. Your geospatial expertise will directly impact how we map, manage, optimize, and expand this critical communications infrastructure.

What You'll Do

• Design and maintain enterprise GIS systems and databases that track network assets, right-of-way data, and infrastructure across continental operations
• Lead the collection, validation, and integration of geospatial data to support network planning, deployment, and regulatory compliance
• Develop spatial analysis models to identify network optimization opportunities, expansion corridors, and operational efficiencies
• Partner with engineering, operations, and business units to translate GIS insights into strategic decisions
• Oversee geospatial technology stack, vendor relationships, and system infrastructure
• Build and mentor a team of GIS professionals and analysts
• Ensure data security, accuracy, and accessibility standards across geospatial assets

What We're Looking For

• 10+ years of GIS experience, with 5+ years in a leadership or director-level role
• Deep expertise in enterprise GIS platforms, spatial databases, and geospatial analysis tools
• Proven experience managing large-scale infrastructure mapping or network data systems
• Strong knowledge of telecommunications, utilities, or similar complex network industries
• Excellent project management and cross-functional collaboration skills
• Technical acumen in data architecture, API integration, and geospatial technology evaluation
• Bachelor's degree in GIS, geography, computer science, civil engineering, or related field
