About this role & career path

Director-level compliance roles usually follow senior individual-contributor or manager experience in compliance, audit, risk, or related legal/regulatory work, then ownership of a program vertical and cross-functional influence. Next steps often stay in enterprise compliance leadership or broaden into broader risk/governance roles.

Build the skills for this role

  • Healthcare/medtech-aware compliance frameworks and escalation discipline
  • Policy writing, monitoring, and CAPA-style remediation tracking
  • Stakeholder communication with legal, IT/security, and operations
  • Audit and investigation hygiene; clear metrics and board-ready updates
  • How you set risk appetite, prioritize controls, and close findings under deadline
  • Examples partnering with product, quality, privacy, or security after incidents or audit gaps
  • How you train the business without becoming a pure checkbox function
  • Comfort leading through ambiguity when systems, vendors, or regs change
