Welding Instruction and Trades Outreach Specialist

After School Matters is hiring a Welding Instruction and Trades Outreach Specialist based in The Gap, Chicago. This full-time position expands hands-on welding and skilled trades education to youth across multiple program sites and neighborhoods throughout the city.

About the Role

You'll lead welding instruction and support trades programming at After School Matters. Based at the Lutz Center, you'll teach welding courses during daytime, after-school, and summer sessions while providing instructional support to trades programs at Orleans, Gately, and additional sites. Your work helps build a pipeline of skilled tradespeople while expanding economic opportunity in underserved Chicago communities.

What You'll Do

• Develop and deliver welding curriculum for youth at multiple program times and locations
• Teach welding courses at the Lutz Center during daytime, after-school, and summer programming
• Support skilled trades instruction at Orleans, Gately, and other After School Matters facilities
• Build safety-first learning environments with proper equipment handling and protocols
• Assess student progress and help participants prepare for credentials and career entry
• Expand trades programming reach into target communities across Chicago
• Coordinate with colleagues and program teams to strengthen overall trades offerings

What We're Looking For

• Hands-on experience teaching welding or skilled trades
• Deep knowledge of welding techniques, safety standards, and equipment
• Ability to work with diverse youth in structured and community-based settings
• Strong mentoring and communication abilities
• Experience managing multiple teaching schedules and program sites
• Passion for connecting young people with career pathways in skilled trades
