Staff Electrical Engineer- Mission Critical (Kansas City)

Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Staff Electrical Engineer to lead electrical design initiatives in Kansas City, Jackson County. This full-time position offers the opportunity to shape critical infrastructure and complex facilities across multiple industries and market sectors.

About the Role

As a Staff Electrical Engineer, you'll collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams to develop comprehensive electrical designs for new construction, building alterations, and facility redevelopment programs. Your work will span a diverse portfolio including power generation and distribution systems, industrial process facilities, corporate headquarters, healthcare institutions, pipeline infrastructure, airport systems, military installations, and government projects. You'll be instrumental in translating client needs and technical requirements into world-class designs that meet stringent performance, safety, and regulatory standards.

What You'll Do

• Lead electrical design development across projects ranging from conceptual phases through detailed engineering
• Mentor junior engineers and coordinate with architects, structural engineers, and specialized consultants
• Evaluate complex electrical systems including power distribution, backup generation, controls, and mission-critical infrastructure
• Ensure designs comply with national and local electrical codes, industry standards, and client specifications
• Manage technical documentation, specifications, and design coordination across project teams
• Contribute to business development and support proposals for new client work

What We're Looking For

• Professional Engineer (PE) license in electrical engineering or equivalent credentials
• Extensive experience designing electrical systems for diverse project types and scales
• Strong understanding of power systems, distribution, controls, and related infrastructure
• Proficiency with industry-standard design software and analysis tools
• Excellent communication and project leadership skills
• Demonstrated ability to manage complex technical projects and mentor team members
