Victim Services Volunteer

Alamosa County is seeking compassionate Victim Services Volunteers to support crime victims in Alamosa, Alamosa County. This is an unpaid volunteer opportunity for individuals committed to advocacy, crisis support, and community care.

About the Role

The Victim Services Volunteer position is based in Alamosa, Alamosa County, and reports to the Victim Services Coordinator within the Sheriff Department. You'll serve as an essential advocate for individuals and families affected by crime, providing emotional support, practical assistance, and access to critical resources during their most difficult moments. This volunteer role involves direct victim contact, on-scene response, follow-up support, documentation, and coordination with law enforcement and social services to ensure comprehensive care.

What You'll Do

• Respond to victim calls and scenes, providing immediate crisis intervention and emotional reassurance
• Conduct follow-up outreach with crime victims to assess ongoing needs and connect them to community resources
• Advocate for victim rights within the criminal justice system and facilitate access to legal, mental health, and financial assistance programs
• Complete detailed incident reports and maintain case documentation to track victim services delivered
• Collaborate with prosecutors, victim advocates, law enforcement, and social service providers to ensure coordinated support
• Educate victims about the criminal justice process, compensation programs, and victim rights notifications
• Transport or accompany victims to court proceedings, medical appointments, or service agencies as needed

• Strong communication and active listening skills
• Reliability and commitment to serving as an on-call volunteer with flexible availability
• Ability to work effectively with law enforcement, prosecutors, and community organizations
• Comfort with sensitive information and demonstrated discretion regarding confidential victim details
• Willingness to be trained in trauma-informed victim advocacy practices
• Ability to respond to evenings, weekends, and emergency situations
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation (preferred)
