About This Opportunity
Our talent team is representing a confidential early-stage venture capital firm based in Munich. This organization invests in B2B technology startups across Europe and maintains a specialized research function at the intersection of applied AI and investment intelligence.
We are seeking a Master's student or intern to join a technical team working on machine learning systems that directly inform investment decisions. This is a hands-on research role where you will own a project from literature review through working prototype, presenting findings to investment professionals.
Responsibilities
- Conduct applied research at the intersection of machine learning and venture capital intelligence
- Take ownership of a research question from initial exploration through implementation and presentation
- Build working prototypes using modern AI/ML tooling and present results to decision-makers
- Work with proprietary venture data and production pipelines
- Collaborate with investors, AI researchers, and engineers on the data team
- Use AI-assisted coding tools effectively while maintaining code quality and reviewing all outputs
What We're Looking For
- Currently enrolled in a Master's program in Computer Science, Data Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or related field at a recognized university
- Depth or strong ambition in at least one relevant area: graph ML and graph databases (e.g. PyTorch Geometric), LLM tooling and evaluation, or probabilistic modeling (e.g. PyMC, NumPyro)
- Strong Python development skills with clean, modular coding practices
- Solid fundamentals in machine learning and statistics
- Experience with AI-assisted coding tools and sound judgment about their capabilities and limitations
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and drive projects with minimal supervision
- Fluent English including technical communication (German helpful but not required)
- Portfolio or GitHub demonstrating relevant technical work
Potential research directions include: Graph Neural Networks for relationship-structured data, program-aided language models for accurate financial computation, or Bayesian updating systems for evolving company assessments. The specific focus will be defined together based on your background and project evolution.
