Utility Locator

Usicinc is hiring a full-time Utility Locator for our Cleveland, Ohio operations. In this essential field position, you'll identify and mark underground utility lines before excavation begins, keeping construction crews safe and projects on schedule.

Position Summary

We need an experienced Utility Locator to join our team in Cleveland. You'll respond to locate requests and use specialized equipment to safely identify underground utilities including electric, gas, water, telecommunications, and sewer lines. This is hands-on outdoor work that directly impacts job site safety and regulatory compliance.

What You'll Do

• Respond to utility locate requests and perform accurate utility locates at excavation sites throughout the Cleveland area
• Operate ground-penetrating radar (GPR), magnetic locators, and cable tracers to identify utility lines
• Mark underground utilities with paint and flags according to industry color-coding standards
• Document locate requests and create accurate records for project files
• Communicate findings and utility locations clearly with contractors and job site supervisors
• Follow all OSHA safety guidelines and company safety protocols without exception
• Respond to both routine and emergency locate requests with professionalism
• Maintain and properly care for locating equipment to ensure reliability

Who We're Looking For

• Proven experience as a Utility Locator or related utility field work
• Knowledge of underground utility identification and APWA color-coding standards
• Ability to operate locating equipment accurately and interpret results
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
• Strong communication skills and meticulous attention to detail
• Physical capability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Genuine commitment to safety and regulatory compliance
• Ability to work flexible hours including emergency calls as needed
