Staff Cloud Native Software Engineer

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential cloud infrastructure organization seeking a Staff Cloud Native Software Engineer to build and operate Kubernetes-based platforms that power AI workloads at scale.

In this role, you'll design and maintain cloud-native software integrations connecting applications with core networking components on GPU-backed infrastructure. You'll work on shared platforms, deployment patterns, observability foundations, and operational tooling that enable internal teams to run services safely and efficiently.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Designing, building, and operating Kubernetes-native software including controllers, operators, custom resources, and admission webhooks
• Extending Kubernetes control-plane capabilities to support specialized workload requirements, including network policy controllers and CNI integrations
• Owning significant components end-to-end and setting technical direction for design, deployment, and operations
• Building reconciliation loops and client-go-based tooling to maintain infrastructure state consistency
• Developing operational tooling and automation for easier deployment and support
• Driving infrastructure architecture decisions around application and networking component integration
• Building observability foundations for controller software including metrics, structured events, and tracing
• Designing systems that degrade gracefully and self-heal using controller patterns
• Debugging complex issues spanning the Kubernetes control plane, networking, and workload runtime behavior
• Defining standards for safe rollout of controller and platform changes
• Setting technical direction for Kubernetes-native software development patterns
• Leading design discussions and code reviews while maintaining high standards for API conventions
• Mentoring engineers in Kubernetes internals and controller-runtime patterns

What We're Looking For

• At least 8 years of production-level software development experience
• Deep hands-on experience building and operating Kubernetes-native software using controller-runtime, client-go, or equivalent
• Strong understanding of Kubernetes internals including the API server, informer/lister patterns, reconciliation loops, and object model
• Strong networking fundamentals covering CNI, service mesh, kube-proxy/eBPF datapaths, DNS, and load balancing
• Proficiency in Go (strongly preferred) or similar language with a track record of shipping production-quality code at scale
• Experience with observability practices including metrics, tracing, and structured logging built into software design
• Ability to own components independently end-to-end while setting direction for adjacent teams
• Track record of leading technical design at staff level and mentoring engineers
• Experience with or strong interest in GPU-backed infrastructure and AI workload patterns is a plus
