Senior Software Engineer, Windows/Desktop Applications – Paris, France

About This Opportunity

We are representing a fast-growing technology company serving over 50 million users worldwide with innovative accessibility-focused software. Our client is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Windows/Desktop Applications based in Paris, France to lead the design and development of their native Windows desktop platform.

This is a remote position within a fully distributed team of approximately 200 professionals globally, including engineers from top tech companies and leading research institutions.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, architecture, and development of native Windows desktop applications using Windows App SDK, WinUI (or related UI frameworks), C#, XAML, and C++ when needed
• Define and enforce best practices for Windows desktop development: code architecture, performance optimization, memory management, responsive UI, cross-version compatibility (Windows 10/11+), and maintainability
• Drive accessibility efforts by integrating and validating support for accessibility APIs (e.g., Microsoft UI Automation), ensuring proper UI controls, focus management, keyboard navigation, and screen-reader support
• Collaborate with product designers, UX researchers, QA, and stakeholders to shape feature planning, UI/UX architecture, and the long-term Windows platform roadmap
• Own the full lifecycle of features from conception through design, implementation, testing, release, and ongoing maintenance
• Identify, diagnose, and resolve complex bugs, performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, rendering issues, and compatibility problems with robust architectural solutions

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

• 3+ years of Windows desktop application development using Windows App SDK, WinUI (or similar frameworks), C#, and XAML—with additional experience in native Windows code (C++, Win32/WinRT/COM) preferred
• Deep understanding of Windows application architecture, including interop between managed code (.NET) and native code
• Proven track record of designing, building, and shipping production-quality desktop applications with emphasis on reliability, performance, scalability, and maintainability
• Strong experience with accessibility APIs on Windows (e.g., Microsoft UI Automation) and dedication to building accessible, inclusive software
• Excellent software engineering fundamentals: OOP, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, memory management, multi-threading, and asynchronous programming
• Experience leading technical design, mentoring engineers, conducting code reviews, and making architecture-level decisions
• Strong communication skills with ability to articulate tradeoffs, collaborate cross-functionally, and drive consensus
• User-centric mindset focused on building polished, intuitive, and accessible experiences

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience writing automated tests for UI (unit tests, integration tests, UI automation tests) with relevant testing frameworks
• Performance optimization expertise for desktop apps (memory usage, startup time, rendering performance, high-DPI support, responsiveness)
• Experience with localization/globalization, right-to-left UI support, and internationalization
• Familiarity with telemetry, analytics, crash reporting, logging, and error monitoring in desktop applications
• Previous experience shaping CI/CD workflows, release pipelines, and deployment strategies for desktop applications
• Demonstrated ability to take long-term ownership of feature areas, including maintenance, refactoring, and technical debt management
