Carteret Borough School District is hiring a full-time Speech and Language Specialist to support student communication and language development across the district. Based in District, Berks County, this position plays a vital role in identifying, assessing, and providing specialized services to students with speech, language, and communication needs.
About the Role
As a Speech and Language Specialist, you'll deliver individualized and group therapy services to students in your assigned schools, helping them develop essential communication skills. Working within the Student Support Services framework, you'll collaborate with teachers, families, and colleagues to create inclusive learning environments where every student can participate fully in their education.
What You'll Do
- Conduct comprehensive speech and language evaluations using evidence-based assessments
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) focused on communication goals
- Provide direct therapy services to students with speech, language, fluency, and voice disorders
- Consult with classroom teachers on communication strategies to reinforce in daily instruction
- Maintain detailed documentation of student progress and treatment outcomes
- Participate in IEP meetings and collaborate on multidisciplinary teams
- Support students' transition planning and post-secondary communication needs
- Maintain compliance with state education regulations and IDEA requirements
What We're Looking For
- Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology or equivalent from an ASHA-accredited program
- Current Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association
- Pennsylvania Department of Education Speech and Language Specialist certification or ability to obtain
- Strong assessment and documentation skills with proficiency in clinical software systems
- Excellent communication abilities with students, families, and school staff
- Ability to manage multiple caseloads and prioritize competing demands
- Knowledge of special education law, inclusive practices, and culturally responsive service delivery
- Experience working in school-based settings preferred
