Software Engineer P2P – Search Team (100% Remote, Worldwide)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential digital finance organization seeking a Software Engineer to join their peer-to-peer search infrastructure team. This is a 100% remote position open to candidates worldwide.

Our client is building next-generation decentralized search technology with a truly peer-to-peer architecture—no centralized servers, no single points of failure. This role offers the chance to work on cutting-edge distributed systems that enable self-organizing, resilient search capabilities across text, images, communications, location data, and beyond.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement distributed search infrastructure using peer-to-peer protocols
• Build self-organizing search engines that operate without centralized indices
• Develop high-performance, highly concurrent networking code for decentralized systems
• Research and apply distributed indexing techniques and relevant academic literature
• Implement and optimize network protocols for peer-to-peer environments
• Test, evaluate, and enhance protocol performance and reliability
• Contribute to decentralized data structures and distributed database implementations

What We're Looking For

• Deep understanding of Kademlia DHT and peer-to-peer networking fundamentals
• Strong knowledge in one or more areas: distributed indexing (skip graphs, prefix hash trees, m-LIGHT, locality sensitive hashing), distributed databases and CRDTs, or classical information retrieval
• Experience with networking protocols: TCP/IP, transport-layer models, multiplexing, NAT traversal, encryption
• Understanding of search engine architecture concepts including recall vs. precision, ranking algorithms, lexical vs. semantic search, and inverted indices
• Proven ability to write high-performance concurrent networking code
• Research interest combined with a strong bias toward building production systems
• Excellent English communication skills for remote collaboration
• Familiarity with the Holepunch stack (hyperdht, hyperswarm, hypercore, hyperbee, hyperdrive, udx-native) is a significant plus
