Software Engineer (AI Tooling & Enablement)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential technology platform client in Sydney, Australia, seeking a Software Engineer to join their AI Tooling & Enablement team. This is a hybrid position focused on building internal developer platforms and AI-powered tooling that accelerates software delivery across engineering, product, and design teams.

You'll be working on platform engineering challenges: designing and maintaining an agentic development harness, building AI workflows integrated into the software development lifecycle, and treating internal engineers as your customers. This role offers high-impact work shaping how a modern engineering organization builds and ships software.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, ship, and maintain platform features including plugins, skills, MCP integrations, internal AI-enabled CLIs, and scaffolding with guidance from senior engineers
• Build robust, tested, and observable tooling that improves the development experience across the entire SDLC
• Wire up agent tooling including tool-use capabilities, scoped permissions, error handling, and automated verification using Playwright and Maestro
• Instrument agent behavior and platform performance using observability tools like Honeycomb
• Troubleshoot complex AI tooling issues spanning both platform and product domains
• Work with version control and CI/CD pipelines, safely managing rollouts and rollbacks
• Contribute to production infrastructure on AWS/Kubernetes using Terraform
• Validate AI outputs for correctness and share useful AI use cases and learnings with engineering peers

What We're Looking For

• 3+ years of professional software development experience writing clean, tested, maintainable code
• Hands-on experience with agentic coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot or similar
• Demonstrated experience building MCP servers, agent skills, or other agentic integrations
• Strong background in writing automated evaluations and tests (unit, integration, and end-to-end)
• Proficiency with containerization using Docker and running workloads on Kubernetes
• Solid understanding of CI/CD principles and git-based version control (branching, reviews, safe rollouts)
• Background in modern languages such as TypeScript/JavaScript and/or Python (flexibility on specific languages)
• Experience building and integrating APIs with a focus on developer experience
• Working knowledge of AWS or comparable cloud environments and core cloud services
• Eagerness to go deep on LLMs, AI agents, MCP protocols, and prompt engineering
