Join PATH (People Assisting the Homeless) as a Part-Time Safety Support Associate in Los Angeles County, where you'll help create secure, supportive environments for people rebuilding their lives through housing.
The Opportunity
This part-time position, working Sundays and Mondays from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, offers meaningful work in our Interim Housing program. You'll play a vital role in maintaining safe, welcoming facilities where individuals experiencing homelessness can stabilize and prepare for permanent housing. Partnering with our case management team, you'll use observation, compassion, and de-escalation skills to support both participants and staff in a housing environment near Los Angeles.
Responsibilities
- Maintain facility and grounds safety through regular inspections and documented observations of any emerging concerns.
- Build positive relationships with program participants to foster a culture of shared responsibility for site safety.
- Apply de-escalation and non-violent crisis intervention techniques when challenging situations arise, working as part of a coordinated team response.
- Collaborate daily with on-site case managers to align safety practices with participant support goals.
- Liaise with contracted security partners to coordinate security protocols and ensure consistent coverage.
- Prepare written reports and documentation on safety incidents, facility conditions, and security observations for supervisors and directors.
- Contribute to developing standardized procedures, checklists, and manuals that strengthen safety systems across our housing program.
- Participate in team meetings, offering insights and feedback on facility operations and participant well-being.
Skills & Qualifications
- Detail-Oriented and Analytical: Identify patterns and discrepancies; document observations clearly and accurately.
- Collaborative: Build rapport across teams, participants, and external partners; contribute constructively to shared goals.
- Communicative: Express information clearly in writing and conversation; listen actively and engage thoughtfully.
- Resourceful: Take initiative, solve problems creatively, and step in when needs arise without waiting for direction.
- Sound Judgment: Weigh complex situations, think through consequences, and make ethical decisions under pressure.
- Professional Integrity: Uphold ethical standards, maintain boundaries, and act with honesty even in difficult circumstances.
- Preferred: One year of experience working with vulnerable or low-income populations, in security, or in crisis de-escalation.
- Minimum: All education and experience levels welcome.
