Data Platform Engineer, Infrastructure

We're hiring a Data Platform Engineer, Infrastructure for a full-time role in our Irvine, CA office. You'll architect and operate the foundational cloud systems powering our globally deployed autonomous robot fleet, engineering the infrastructure that ingests, processes, and serves mission-critical operational data collected from robotics systems in real-world environments across construction, security, mining, and manufacturing.

Role Overview

Field-ai develops autonomous robotic systems that operate reliably in complex, real-world environments and deliver practical results in challenging industries. As our robot deployments scale globally, the operational data they generate drives continuous model refinement and operational decision-making. In this infrastructure engineering role, you'll own the cloud architecture underlying every robot deployment, data pipeline, analytics dashboard, and machine learning training workload—ensuring all systems run securely, reliably, and cost-effectively at scale.

Your Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate the cloud infrastructure foundation supporting our expanding robot fleet and data platform
• Collaborate with pipeline engineers, analytics engineers, edge computing teams, and robotics teams to deliver systems that handle global sensor streams and operational telemetry reliably
• Establish and maintain platform reliability, security, and compliance across distributed systems architecture
• Drive infrastructure cost efficiency and optimization as deployment footprint scales globally
• Implement observability, monitoring, and incident management practices to sustain platform uptime
• Build systems that process and prioritize operational signals and anomalies to guide engineering efforts

Skills & Qualifications

• Proven experience designing and operating cloud infrastructure at scale (AWS, GCP, Azure, or similar)
• Expertise in Infrastructure as Code, containerization technologies, and orchestration platforms
• Strong background in distributed systems, databases, and data architecture
• Knowledge of cloud networking, security architecture, and compliance frameworks
• Proficiency in backend programming languages such as Python, Go, Rust, or Java
• Experience designing and supporting data pipeline and ETL infrastructure
• Track record of optimizing system performance and operational cost at scale
