About the Role

As a Level 3 Sergeant, you will report to the Shift Lieutenant and serve as a key leadership member within the housing unit operations at Perry Correctional Institution. This role requires managing the day-to-day security functions of assigned units while maintaining the highest standards of facility operations and inmate management.

What You'll Do

• Supervise and direct security personnel assigned to housing units, ensuring compliance with all institutional policies and procedures
• Maintain custody and control of all inmates in assigned areas through direct supervision and tactical presence
• Conduct regular inspections of housing units and common areas to verify compliance with security, safety, and sanitation standards
• Investigate incidents, security concerns, and rule violations, documenting findings and recommending corrective actions
• Coordinate inmate movements, activities, and schedules while maintaining operational efficiency and security protocols
• Communicate effectively with subordinate staff, supervisors, and other departments to ensure coordinated facility operations
• Respond to emergencies and security threats with appropriate judgment and decisive action
• Maintain detailed records and reports documenting all relevant activities and incidents

What We're Looking For

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Prior correctional, law enforcement, or military experience preferred
• Strong leadership and supervisory skills with the ability to manage personnel effectively
• Sound judgment and the ability to remain calm under pressure
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Physical capability to perform the duties of the position, including standing for extended periods and responding to security incidents
• Commitment to maintaining security and safety standards in a correctional environment
