Senior Wetland Scientist

Stantec is hiring a Senior Wetland Scientist to join our environmental consulting team in Leawood, Johnson County, Kansas. This full-time position offers the opportunity to lead complex wetland and aquatic resource projects while mentoring junior staff and driving scientific excellence across the region.

About the Role

As a Senior Wetland Scientist at Stantec, you'll take a leadership role in wetland assessment, delineation, and environmental permitting work. You'll combine field expertise with technical analysis to support clients navigating regulatory requirements and environmental stewardship. Your contributions will shape projects that protect critical ecosystems while advancing development and infrastructure goals across the Midwest.

What You'll Do

• Conduct wetland delineations, habitat assessments, and aquatic resource surveys using established federal and state protocols
• Prepare environmental reports, permitting documentation, and regulatory compliance materials for state and federal agencies
• Lead client meetings and coordinate with regulatory agencies to navigate wetland and Clean Water Act compliance
• Manage project timelines, budgets, and team assignments while maintaining quality standards
• Mentor and supervise junior scientists and field technicians on project delivery
• Develop and refine methodologies to improve project efficiency and scientific rigor
• Contribute to business development and client relationship management

What We're Looking For

• Advanced degree in wetland science, environmental science, ecology, or related discipline, or equivalent professional experience
• 5+ years of hands-on wetland assessment and environmental permitting experience
• Demonstrated expertise in wetland delineation protocols and aquatic resource identification
• Strong knowledge of federal (Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act) and Kansas state environmental regulations
• Proven ability to lead teams, mentor junior staff, and manage client relationships
• Excellent technical writing and communication skills
• Willingness to travel for field work and client meetings
