About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential technology organization in their search for a Senior Staff Data Engineer to join their data platform team in Canada. This is a hybrid technical leadership role that bridges data engineering and platform engineering, working with systems that process tens of terabytes of data daily.
Our client operates data infrastructure that serves millions of users globally, supporting diverse applications from analytics and insights to machine learning implementations. This role offers the opportunity to shape the technical direction of their modern cloud-based data platform.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and improve systems to reliably process data at scale (tens of terabytes per day)
- Evaluate and implement new technologies, establishing best-practice standards across data engineering and platform engineering teams
- Build and optimize workflows in GCP using components such as Dataflow, BigQuery, Pub/Sub, GKE, and Airflow
- Lead cross-functional projects with stakeholders across data science, product, legal, policy, and engineering organizations
- Mentor team members and develop engineering best practices across the data organization
- Collaborate with data science teams to design useful data abstractions
- Address evolving needs of active data products and services
What We're Looking For
- 10+ years of combined experience in data engineering, data platform engineering, data science, or data analyst roles
- Deep expertise in both data engineering and data platform engineering disciplines
- Hands-on experience with cloud data tooling in GCP, AWS, or Azure, including technologies like Pub/Sub, BigQuery, Dataflow (Apache Beam), or equivalent
- Experience with Looker, Fivetran, Kubernetes/GKE, Airflow/Cloud Composer, and Terraform or similar technologies
- Advanced coding skills in SQL and Python
- Strong software engineering fundamentals including modularity, abstraction, data structures, and algorithms
- Previous experience as a tech lead, team lead, hands-on data engineering/platform manager, or similar leadership role

Pay
Pay via Get A Job.ai depends on your location tier within Canada:
- Canada Tier 1 Locations: $142,000–$189,000 CAD
- Canada Tier 2 Locations: $129,000–$171,000 CAD
