Senior Software Engineer- (PLC/OT) – Product Delivery

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential industrial manufacturing organization seeking a Senior Software Engineer with PLC and OT expertise. In this role, you will work at the heart of a modern production facility, bridging the gap between traditional control systems and contemporary software architecture.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Analyzing and documenting existing PLC code (Siemens TIA Portal), robot programs (KUKA KRL), and other OT systems from external vendors, translating this knowledge into shared engineering understanding
• Designing and implementing Python-based software components that replace, abstract, or orchestrate legacy PLC and robot logic
• Building maintainable, testable, and well-structured services with strong focus on code quality, modularity, and long-term ownership
• Bringing an operational mindset to monitor, maintain, and improve software uptime including reliable updates, latency optimization, and efficiency improvements
• Acting as a bridge between digital product delivery and physical logistics and manufacturing systems, ensuring alignment and integration
• Defining, monitoring, and evolving SLAs/SLOs as well as other critical KPIs such as OEE for mission-critical systems
• Operating and troubleshooting the software you develop during factory working hours as part of the team's ownership model

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Experienced software engineer with very good coding skills in Python or another modern object-oriented programming language such as C++ or C#
• Solid understanding of software design, abstraction, modularity, and maintainable system architecture
• Experience writing clean, testable, production-grade code and applying modern software engineering practices including code reviews, automated testing, and CI/CD
• Confidence working in operationally critical environments where reliability, observability, and controlled change management are essential
• Ability to understand and gradually modernize legacy systems without losing business continuity
• Effective communication skills across software, manufacturing, and operations domains

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience with PLC programming, industrial robots, or OT systems
• Familiarity with KUKA KRL, OPC-UA, MQTT, or similar industrial integration technologies
• Background working in logistics, manufacturing, or other production-critical environments
• Familiarity with simulation-driven development or digital twins
