Join BMT as a Senior Naval Architect and help shape the future of maritime engineering. We're seeking an experienced naval architect to work on meaningful projects across our offices in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Ottawa, Ontario, or Victoria, British Columbia—this is a permanent, full-time role.
About This Position
As a Senior Naval Architect at BMT, you'll take on a leadership role within our naval and maritime engineering practice. This position offers the opportunity to work on challenging projects that advance Canada's maritime capabilities and global shipping innovation. The salary range for this senior-level position is $105,000 to $150,000 annually, reflecting the expertise and experience we seek. You'll be based at one of our three Canadian locations, working in-person with a collaborative team of engineers and technical specialists dedicated to excellence in naval design and marine engineering solutions.
Your Responsibilities
- Lead the design and technical development of naval vessels and marine structures, applying advanced hydrodynamic and structural engineering principles
- Conduct feasibility studies, preliminary designs, and detailed technical analyses to meet client requirements and regulatory standards
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and deliverables while coordinating with cross-functional teams of engineers and maritime specialists
- Review and certify compliance with international maritime regulations, classification society rules, and naval design standards
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the professional development of the naval architecture team
- Prepare technical documentation, design reports, and presentations for clients and stakeholders
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a closely related discipline; advanced degree preferred
- Minimum 8–10 years of professional experience in naval architecture, marine design, or related engineering fields
- Demonstrated proficiency with naval design software and CAD tools commonly used in marine engineering
- Strong knowledge of international maritime standards, ship classification rules, and design regulations
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with a track record of delivering complex technical projects
- Professional engineering license or certification (P.Eng. or equivalent) is an asset
- Outstanding communication and leadership skills with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams
