Senior Engineering Manager (m/f/d)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential technology organization in Berlin that is building innovative identity and data platform solutions. Our talent team is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead multiple engineering teams working on distributed systems at scale.

This is a leadership role that balances people management with deep technical expertise. You will guide full-stack teams while bringing particular strength in backend systems, microservices architecture, and cloud infrastructure. You'll be responsible for growing high-performing teams, defining engineering best practices, and making critical technical decisions that ensure security, scalability, and performance.

Responsibilities

• Lead and provide vision, direction, and coaching to multiple engineering teams, including managers, staff engineers, and senior individual contributors
• Drive engineering execution and on-time delivery of secure, performant, customer-focused systems
• Oversee and contribute to the design and development of high-scale, high-performance distributed production systems
• Collaborate with product, design, and business stakeholders to define and execute the technology roadmap
• Establish and evolve engineering best practices, delivery processes, and quality standards to scale effectively
• Mentor and develop engineering leaders, fostering career growth, leadership depth, and technical excellence
• Stay current with emerging technologies and bring innovative approaches to improve scalability, architecture, and developer experience
• Champion privacy by design, security-first principles, and high-quality engineering across backend and frontend systems

What We're Looking For

Required Experience and Skills:

• Proven track record of leading engineering organizations in global, high-growth environments while driving on-time delivery of high-quality systems at scale
• Strong leadership skills: coaching, mentoring, developing leaders, and fostering high-performing, inclusive teams
• Ability to balance strategic vision with practical execution, aligning engineering teams with business outcomes
• Strong knowledge of TypeScript/Node.js in backend systems
• Experience with React/Next.js and/or Flutter, demonstrating solid understanding of modern web and/or mobile development practices
• Proven success in designing, deploying, and scaling microservices in cloud environments, specifically AWS
• Strong advocate for privacy, security, cryptography, and resilient system design
• Skilled at balancing technical leadership and people leadership, growing teams while staying engaged in critical technical decisions
• Excellence in cross-functional collaboration with product, design, and security stakeholders
• Ability to thrive in fast-moving environments, building autonomous teams that experiment, learn, and deliver at speed

Bonus Qualifications:

• Experience with Dart; familiarity with C#, Go, Rust, or similar languages
• Experience with asynchronous cryptography and identity/authentication domains
• Experience working across functions, locations, and time zones
• Expertise in decentralized identity solutions
• Experience building systems with advanced cryptography requirements
