Senior Engineering Manager, Grafana Frontend | United Kingdom | Remote

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential observability technology organization seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead two distributed frontend engineering squads. You will be accountable for team performance, delivery, and customer outcomes across Frontend Platform and Navigation teams.

Your responsibilities include:

• Lead and develop two distributed engineering squads: set expectations, delegate effectively, coach team members, provide timely feedback, address performance gaps, and build a culture of trust and accountability
• Own hiring and team planning across both squads, aligning capacity and skills with product priorities and long-term needs
• Lead discovery with your squads by engaging directly with customers, community members, and internal users; combine feedback with research and usage data to shape roadmaps
• Partner with Product, Design, and engineering leaders to set priorities, resolve dependencies, and make trade-offs between customer needs and operational demands
• Own delivery from discovery through rollout and measurement: set milestones, surface risks early, and intervene when commitments are at risk
• Use AI tools in your management work to synthesize research and feedback, inform roadmap decisions, and streamline coordination and reporting
• Improve how squads plan, make decisions, and deliver; lead the adoption of AI and automation across engineering workflows
• Set engineering direction for frontend foundations including developer experience, accessibility, architecture, tooling, reliability, and multitenant capabilities
• Define engineering standards for quality, security, and operability, including how teams evaluate AI-assisted work
• Lead improvements that increase engineering productivity and improve business outcomes
• Participate in engineering management on-call rotation and coordinate incident responses

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Significant experience managing senior engineers, building healthy teams, and developing technical leaders with clear feedback and direct performance management
• Strong technical foundation in modern web or frontend systems, enabling you to evaluate technical trade-offs and shape architectural decisions
• Track record of turning ambiguous, cross-team problems into clear priorities and measurable results while managing delivery risks
• Strong product and customer judgment with the ability to connect engineering investments to user and business outcomes
• Clear, concise written communication and effectiveness working in remote, globally distributed organizations
• Appreciation for open-source development and ability to balance cloud-first delivery with community needs
• Practical experience using AI and automation in leadership work and leading teams to adopt them effectively

Bonus qualifications:

• Experience with React, TypeScript, or comparable large-scale frontend ecosystems
• Experience leading developer platform teams, including support for plugins or extensions
• Experience with navigation, search, information architecture, or resource-management products
• Experience delivering multitenant SaaS or major platform migrations
• Experience working on widely adopted open-source products
