About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential observability platform organization seeking a Senior Engineering Manager, Frontend to lead distributed engineering teams in the United Kingdom. This is a fully remote position with a global, collaborative culture.

In this role, you'll lead two engineering squads focused on frontend platform capabilities and navigation, owning their performance, delivery, and customer outcomes. You'll develop senior engineers, partner with Product and Design, and drive improvements in how teams work, including through AI and automation.

The organization operates as a remote-first company with team members across 40+ countries, built on open-source foundations and designed for interoperability across any stack.

Responsibilities

• Lead the performance of two distributed engineering squads: set clear expectations, coach and develop team members, give timely feedback, and build a culture of trust and accountability
• Own hiring and team planning across both squads, aligning team capacity and skills with product priorities and longer-term needs
• Lead discovery with your squads: engage directly with customers, community members, and internal users to shape roadmaps and priorities
• Partner with Product, Design, and engineering leaders to set priorities, resolve dependencies, and make trade-offs between customer needs and operational demands
• Own delivery across both squads from discovery through rollout and measurement: set milestones, surface risks early, and intervene when commitments are at risk
• Use AI regularly in management work to synthesize research and feedback, inform roadmap decisions, and streamline coordination and reporting
• Lead the adoption of AI and automation across engineering workflows, evaluating impact on delivery speed, quality, and efficiency
• Set engineering direction with senior engineers for frontend foundations, including developer experience, accessibility, architecture, tooling, and reliability
• Set engineering direction for navigation, search, and resource organization, including AI-assisted discovery capabilities
• Set and uphold engineering standards for quality, security, and operability
• Participate in engineering management on-call rotation and coordinate incident responses

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Significant experience managing senior engineers, building healthy teams, and developing technical leaders with clear feedback and performance management
• Strong technical foundation in modern web or frontend systems, enabling evaluation of technical trade-offs and architectural decisions
• Track record of turning ambiguous, cross-team problems into clear priorities and measurable results
• Strong product and customer judgment, with ability to connect engineering investments to user and business outcomes
• Clear, concise written communication and ability to work effectively in a remote, globally distributed organization
• Appreciation for open-source development and ability to balance cloud-first delivery with community needs
• Practical experience using AI and automation in leadership work and leading teams to adopt them effectively

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience with React, TypeScript, or comparable large-scale frontend ecosystems
• Experience leading a developer platform team, including support for plugins or extensions
• Experience with navigation, search, information architecture, or resource-management products
• Experience delivering multitenant SaaS or major platform migrations
• Experience working on a widely adopted open-source product

Pay

The client has indicated a base compensation range of GBP 117,949 - GBP 141,539 for this role in the United Kingdom, with actual compensation varying based on level, experience, and skillset. The role also includes equity in the form of Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). Our recruiting team will discuss all compensation details during the screening process.
