Position Summary

Based in Marshall, Lyon County, you will travel across multiple regions including Alexandria, Bemidji, Detroit Lakes, Hutchinson, Mankato, Moorhead, and Willmar to inspect employer-provided housing facilities, identify code violations, and educate stakeholders on federal Department of Labor standards. Some telework eligibility may be available depending on project requirements. Your work directly strengthens Minnesota's reputation as an ethical agricultural employer and ensures vulnerable workers receive safe, compliant housing.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Conduct unannounced and scheduled inspections of H-2A worker housing to verify compliance with federal housing codes and safety standards
- Document housing conditions, photograph violations, and prepare detailed inspection reports with findings and required corrective actions
- Interview agricultural employers and H-2A workers to assess living conditions, working arrangements, and worker concerns
- Provide direct outreach and technical assistance to employers regarding federal certification requirements and corrective measures
- Inform workers of their rights, safety resources, and grievance procedures in clear, accessible language
- Coordinate with state and federal partners to resolve violations and enforce compliance
- Maintain detailed records and generate compliance data reports for state agency leadership
Skills & Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED, or vocational credential; relevant agricultural or labor compliance experience preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities to interact professionally with diverse employer and worker populations
- Ability to conduct objective, thorough inspections and document complex findings with accuracy and clarity
- Spanish-English bilingual skills strongly preferred to effectively serve Minnesota's agricultural workforce
- Valid driver's license and reliable access to transportation for multi-county travel across inspection assignments
- Independent work ethic and ability to manage multiple inspections within a seasonal work schedule
- Basic computer proficiency and openness to learning state inspection software systems
